What this does mean is that more active people are placed in a slightly higher risk group when it comes to potential sports injuries. Every single kind of sport is connected with some injuries, but injuries that affect the groin area may have a disastrous impact on your beloved Bathmate routine.
Being more active will obviously leave you more at risk when it comes to potential sports injuries and more susceptible to things like a hernia that may need medical treatment. Every active person knows that being more active is connected with more injuries.
What type of groin injuries are there? How does this affect you? The first thing you need to know about groin injuries is the fact that some of them occur together and a major part of active people can experience multiple groin injuries and types of pain simultaneously.
Snapping hip syndrome, is connected with many different conditions that cause a snapping feeling in the hip whilst exercising. It occurs when muscles in the hip area are misaligned. Snapping hip syndrome can cause severe groin pain but it can also be a precursor to hip bursitis.
Athletic pubalgia is commonly known as a sports hernia. It is applied to many types of groin injury. Active person can feel tears occurring in the muscles, ligaments or tendons of the lower abdomen.
Inguinal hernia occurs while working on the lower abdominal muscles, often resulting in a bulge in the groin area. It happens, when abdominal organs press against or the weakened muscles. Moreover, an inguinal hernia can cause a pulling or dragging sensation in the groin when stretching, carrying weights, bending over, sneezing and coughing.
Osteitis pubis – This injury has similar symptoms to what is called an adductor strain. It is characterized by chronic inflammation in the pubic symphysis joint and its surrounding soft tissue due to repetitive stress on the pelvis. This injury is very common among runners, soccer players, and dancers.
Femoral neck and pubic ramus bones stress fractures are small cracks that form in the bone over time and cause pain. Very common injury among distance running, soccer, and basketball. A narrow portion between the walnut-shaped head and shaft where it joins the pelvis, can be subject to stress fractures in active people, especially those one whose lower body part is used a lot.
Avulsion fracture occurs when the tendons (connect muscles to bone) are torn at the connection site, what gives pain and muscle weakness.
Adductor strain (also known as groin strain or pull). It is the most “popular” injury among groin injuries. Adductor strain occurs when the adductor muscles (the most important muscles on the inside of the thigh where it meets the pelvis) are stretched or torn too much. It usually appears when active person makes sudden moves, stops or turns. People who usually have that kind of injury are runners and soccer players.
Groin injury treatment
Medication. Pain relievers and NSAIDs. NSAIDs are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications that you can get these after a consultation with your doctor. Ibuprofen can relieve pain as well as tylenol.
Try to use the P.R.I.C.E. protocol from 24 to 72 hours after injury. It is a similar program to R.IC.E. but with one addition – experts added PROTECTION to the classical protocol.
The first part is protection – preventing future injury. You can try to immobilize injured area by using a sling, or brace to protect that area.
Rest. One of the most important things that many an active person forgets about. A person should avoid activities stressing the injured area. If you work out a bit and feel any pain – stop! Try to exercise in a very gentle way, avoid painful activities. Movement of the joints and muscles surrounding an injury help with recovery. So do little and often.
Ice – using ice while being injured (cryotherapy). This procedure is used to minimize and reduce swelling and minimize pain. You can easily do that at home. Simple as that – the plastic bag of ice has to be placed over a paper towel on the affected area. Remember to protect your skin and only leave the ice on for approx 10-15 minutes (after 25 minutes have a short break). Repeat it for an hour or two. It is the most effective way to get rid of pain. If your skin is getting mottled, red and raised because of exposure to ice you have to stop!
Next step is compression. It means a compression bandage applied to the injured place. It minimizes swelling and provides mild support. Remember to change the bandage frequently and keep it clean.
The last step of the protocol is elevation that helps to reduce the pooling of fluid in the injured area. When you control swelling it decreases pain and limits the loss of range in motion. Try to place the injured area above the level of the heart during waking hours but when you sleep – try to place your injured limb on some pillows.
Finally, CAN I STILL USE MY PENIS PUMP?
Yes. You can use it. Being a health brand we thought about everything when designing our hydropumps. The Hydroxtreme penis pump comes equipped with a bunch of accessories, now this is good news for someone who may have had recent groin injuries but would like to continue their fitness regime as closely as possible.
The Hydroxtreme has an amazing feature – you have the ability to attach a handball and hose meaning you can pump using a single hand to control the vacuum and apply as little pressure as possible to the groin area, fantastic is it not? For more serious cases it is worth discussing the use of your pump with a health professional before commencing with your Bathmate routine.
