We do our best to avoid them but unfortunately sometimes we pick up the odd bug here or there, with seasonal changes we are more and more susceptible to getting ill. Nobody likes being ill. A number of things may contribute to the likelihood of you catching a cold, diet, amount of sleep and the environment we work in. Unfortunately for some catching a cold is totally unavoidable.
So what’s the best thing to do if you are ill? How can we get you back on form in the shortest time possible? Read on to find out!
Hydrate yourself
Staying hydrated is very important. Drink plenty of fluids. Water and herbal tea is very good for you – especially things like ginger tea. Ginger has fantastic healing properties and tastes great too. The warming sensation will get to work on your sinuses and you should feel a boost straight away. Ginger is very good in terms of anti-viral and anti-bacterial qualities. Water is good to detox and flush out your system and should have you back on your feet in no time.
Vitamin C
Pretty obvious this one. You can get vitamin C from a number of places. It’s extremely important when it comes to fighting off a cold. Take multivitamin tablets that include vitamin C or try those dissolving vitamin C tablets that contain a high concentration. Try making your own hot lemon and honey drinks or pack a few oranges in to your bag to eat as snacks throughout the day.
Rest
Try your best to get some rest, whether it be an afternoon nap or 8 hours decent sleep on a night rest is a great way to allow your body to shut down for a while, reload and reset. When we sleep we are giving our bodies a chance to replenish and recharge our batteries. It’s Essential to our overall health and getting some much needed rest is a great way to combat the illness.
Chicken soup
Eating chicken soup or broth is fantastic. Try making it from scratch and throw in a bunch of veg. It’s great for detoxifying the body and tastes amazing too. Having a hot bowl of chicken soup on a winter’s day soothes the mind body and soul! It’s a great way to start to take control back and beat that horrible cold for good!
Hot shower
This will work wonders for your sinuses and help shift that niggling headache. Having a warm steamy shower will do a number of things but more importantly it will cleanse your body of germs. It will leave you feeling invigorated and refreshed, using certain oils whilst showering will also help clear your blocked nose and make you feel more awake and prepared to take on your cold and battle back to good health.
Curry
Yes, curry! Probably our favourite on the list. We’re talking heat, herbs and spices. The hotter the better. We really want you to get a sweat on! It is thought that the reason a curry can work so well on a common cold is because it contains ingredients such as chilli, garlic and ginger. These select herbs and spices are perfect when it comes to getting rid of a cold in the fastest time possible. Chilli, garlic and ginger all have what are known as anti-viral and anti-bacterial qualities and what’s even better is this is totally natural and you can even cook your own from scratch. So not only is it super tasty and comforting but it will work wonders on your health too. Get yourself to the nearest takeaway now! Obviously for health purposes…
If you feel up to it getting out and about and having a brisk walk or slow jog will maximise your chances of getting better quicker. Detoxing and sweating out your cold alongside the tips on this list should mean you are back on top form in no time. Being ill is the worst, it affects us all differently but the one thing we all have in common is how frustrating and inconvenient it is. We all live busy lifestyles and can’t afford to let something like an annoying cold get in the way of our day to day dealings. Remember to blow your nose in to a tissue frequently and wash your hands every time.
